Purchasing/Renting and Instrument

Each Student is required to provide their own intrument and all other necessary materials.  Information on required materials is located in the Handbook.

The quality of instrument your child plays has a vital role in his/her success as a String Player.  There are many reputable music stores in the Huntsville/Decatur area that offer quality instruments.  These stores are a great resource to you.  Many of these stores offer rent to own programs that are helpful especially to growing students.

Here are some things to consider when renting/purchasing an instrument:

1. Use a reputable store in the area.

Here is a list of a few reputable brands that these stores should carry:

Andreas Eastman, Beckmann, Discover/Schroeder, Glaesel, Hermann Beyer, KC Strings, Knilling, William Harris Lee Co., William Lewis and Son, Nagoya Suzuki, Pfretzner, Scherl and Roth.

2. The bow must be real horse hair.

3. Pegs and Fingerboard should be real ebony.

4. Instrument should have dominant strings.

5. Be very cautious if purchasing an instrument online.

Most online purchases will not be acceptable.

Do not purchase an instrument that is any color but natural wood color.
